White Horse Inn's story of success on Lake Wolfgang was made into a film for the third time in 2013 - with pep, pomp and surprising twists.
"Orgiastic mass choreos of Dirndl ballet dancers with pink feather dusters and chequered waiters are arranged to ornaments of wonderful baloney, otherwise only seen in over-emotional Bollywood films [...] That is the quirky fusion of ironic, tackily local film, surrealistic folklore and cheesy happy end that only the German-speaking film industry can produce." - is what Frankfurter Rundschau's film critic Sabine Vogel wrote about the film.
The 1930s White Horse Inn operetta is considered to be one of its genre's most successful German works and was staged throughout Europe and even on Broadway, amongst other places, as well as being made into films several times. Directed by Christian Theede and based on a script by Jan Berger Diana Amft, Tobias Licht, Armin Rohde, Edita MalovÄiÄ and Gregor Bloéb perform in this version. Set and story were set today - and the music also received a makeover. The musical comedy's classics were re-recorded and newly produced by Bela B., Till Brönner and Parov Stelar, amongst others.
Since the filming Gregor Bloéb has been closely connected to White Horse Inn: "My White Horse! During the filming for The White Horse Inn remake I was of course staying at the White Horse. And I think that was in the end the secret why I was even more beautiful as Sigi. At the most beautiful hotel at the most beautiful spot, you can only become more beautiful yourself. Sooooo …. beautiful! :-)" - comment of the actor and friend of White Horse Inn when we interviewed him for the upcoming issue of our Rösslboten in spring 2014.
The White Horse Inn owners Gudrun Peter were able to see the remake before anyone else. A hurricane of applause could be heard after the Austrian premiere of the White Horse remake on 06.11.2013 in Salzburg. Fazit: The cult lives on, the new interpretation is a great success. Our hearts long for the beautiful piece of Austria on Lake Wolfgang - yours too?
