The Salt Mines – historic cultural heritage
In Hallstatt you also have the chance to visit the “Salt World of Hallstatt” and slide down the longest wooden slide of Europe. If you want to visit the oldest “Pipeline” in the world, you can do so at Hallstatt town. A 40 kilometre long salt pipe line was built in 1507. 13,000 tree trunks were used to build the salt pipeline, which runs through the Salzkammergut townships of Bad Goisern, Lauffen and Bad Ischl.
