Exhilarating cave exploration
Explore two fascinating caves in Dachstein: the Dachstein Ice Cave and the Mammoth Cave. Both can be reached within around 45 minutes by taking the Austrian Romantic Road from the Romantik Hotel Im Weissen Rössl.
Starting point for your cave exploration
Start your journey of exploration through the caves in Obertraun, close to Hallstatt on Hallstätter See. Travel up to Schönbergalm with the Dachstein funicular and take in the impressive scenery before starting your guided tour of the Dachstein Ice Cave and Mammoth Cave. After walking for roughly 10–15 minutes, you will reach the entrance to the Dachstein Ice Cave, which has been open to visitors since 1913. Experience the world of ice on the one-hour tour, with the illuminated ice chambers and glistening sculpture perfectly staged with light and sound.
Rössl tip: Be sure to get tickets to an Eisklang concert in the Dachstein Ice Cave
The 'Eisklang' concerts are a truly magical experience for young and old alike. Make sure to order tickets in advance as visitor numbers are strictly limited.
Info: When visiting the Dachstein Ice Cave, remember that warm clothing and sturdy shoes are also required in the summer months!
The Dachstein Mammoth Cave in Salzkammergut
A visit to the Mammoth Cave offers an exhilarating contrast after visiting the Dachstein Ice Cave. Wander through the dry cave on a one-hour guided tour.
