Im Jahr 2024 feiern wir den 1.100. Geburtstag des heiligen Wolfgang, dem Namenspatron des Heimatortes des Hotels Im Weissen Rössl am Wolfgangsee. Die gesamte Marktgemeinde St. Wolfgang ist in Feierlaune, und für unsere Gäste gibt es allerlei Möglichkeiten, das Fest mitzuerleben. Der heilige Wolfgang wurde bekannt für seine Wohltätigkeit und Gläubigkeit. Eine faszinierende Legende besagt sogar, dass er sein Beil vom Falkenstein ins Tal geworfen hat, um göttliche Weisung für den Bau seiner Kirche zu erhalten, die heute als Wallfahrtskirche St. Wolfgang bekannt ist.
Many pilgrimage routes lead to St. Wolfgang
Lake Wolfgangsee is lined with numerous pilgrimage routes, which have been popular destinations for the faithful since the Middle Ages. Back then, up to 80,000 pilgrims were drawn to picturesque St. Wolfgang. Today, these paths are known as "Wolfgangs Spuren" or "Wolfgangwege" to make them attractive not only for pilgrimage groups but also for individual hikers.
All of these beautiful paths lead past the very discreet Falkenstein church, where St. Wolfgang once lived as a hermit. After approx. 3 km you reach the end point of the long pilgrimage, the wonderful church of St. Wolfgang in the center of St. Wolfgang.
In honor of St. Wolfgang
In the Wolfgang Year 2024, there will be various festivities throughout the year in honor of St. Wolfgang. The traditional associations from Strobel, St. Gilgen and St. Wolfgang are organizing a big festival at the end of April to celebrate customs, culture and traditions from the region. National and international artists are invited to spend a week working on paintings, sculptures and performances.
The Wolfgang Year starts on April 7, 2024, the so-called "White Sunday". On this Sunday, an important bishop's mass will take place at Lake Wolfgang. A play entitled "Wolfgang-Spiel am See" will also be premiered during the Wolfgang Year.
Another highlight: next year, the newly constructed "Salzkammergut Lake Stage on Lake Wolfgang" will provide a unique backdrop for outstanding cultural events in May and June. The performances on the lake stage, combined with the arrival of guests by Wolfgangsee boat to the performance venue at the Ferienhort am Wolfgangsee, promise an impressive cultural experience on Lake Wolfgang. The mystical musical "WOLF - Das Mystical" with music by composer Gerd Hermann Ortler and the libretto by Upper Austrian writer Franzobel.
