The easiest and most convenient way to reach the state capital of Salzburg, the federal state of the same name, is by car or public bus. Most of the parking spaces in the city charge a fee. Festung Hohensalzburg
High above Salzburg’s old town lies Hohensalzburg Fortress, one of the city’s most famous landmarks. The fortress is easily accessible by the FestungsBahn or on foot, and offers historical exhibitions, impressive rooms and one of the most beautiful views over Salzburg.
Particularly worth seeing are the Fortress Museum, the Princes’ Chambers, the Panorama Tour and the Puppet Museum. The fortress is open all year round and is an ideal destination for a day trip to Salzburg.

Getreidegasse
Getreidegasse is one of the best-known streets in Salzburg’s Old Town and is ideal for a stroll through the city. Lined with historic building façades, ornate guild signs, small shops, cafés and restaurants, it combines shopping, architecture and Salzburg’s history. Particularly worth seeing are the characteristic passage houses and courtyards, as well as the birthplace of the ‘Salzburg child prodigy’, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, at Getreidegasse 9.
Stift St.Peter
St Peter’s Abbey is one of the oldest and most significant monasteries in the German-speaking world and is situated right in the heart of Salzburg’s Old Town. Particular highlights include the abbey church, the historic St Peter’s Cemetery and the catacombs carved into the rock. You should allow about an hour for your visit.

Salzburg Cathedral:
Salzburg Cathedral is one of the most important sights in the Old Town. The Cathedral Square, with its Marian Column, is also well worth a visit and serves as the backdrop for the Salzburg Festival’s production of ,,Jedermann" every year. A conservation contribution of €5.00 is charged for adults visiting the cathedral. Children and young people up to the age of 18 can visit the cathedral free of charge.
Hellbrunn Water Games and Palace
Hellbrunn Palace was built by Prince-Archbishop Markus Sittikus in the early 17th century as a place of relaxation and entertainment. It is particularly famous for its unique water features, with their surprising fountains, grottoes and the historic Mechanical Theatre. The palace itself, with its ‘SchauLust’ exhibition, and the extensive grounds with their ponds, sculptures and adventure playground are also well worth a visit.

- Depending on the month, last admission is between 4.30 pm & 6.30 pm
The Water Games last around 50 minutes & the palace tour with an audio guide takes around 30 minutes.
Zoo Salzburg Hellbrunn
Salzburg Hellbrunn Zoo is a popular destination for families in the south of the city of Salzburg. Around 1,600 animals representing 150 species live across some 14 hectares. The naturally designed enclosures, offering views of the Hellbrunn rocky landscape and the mountain panorama, are particularly worth seeing.
